“Dedicated to supporting and improving healthcare access for individuals with lymphoedema and disabilities across Uganda.”
About Us: ILF Uganda at a Glance
EHUD Disability Foundation operating as ILF Uganda, is a pioneer in providing holistic care and support to individuals affected by lymphoedema and other disabilities in Uganda. We believe in a future where no one’s health is limited by stigma, lack of access, or inadequate care. Through healthcare services, training, advocacy, and community engagement, ILF Uganda strives to uplift lives and create lasting change.
Our Mission:
“To empower individuals living with lymphoedema and disabilities in Uganda through evidence-based healthcare, advocacy, and community education. We provide sustainable solutions—including compression therapy, healthcare worker training, and stigma reduction—to improve quality of life and restore dignity, aligned with the WHO’s International Classification of Functioning framework.”
Key Pillars:
1. Capacity Building: “Train healthcare workers in lymphoedema management (e.g., Buvuma/Napak districts).”
2. Medical Care: “Distribute compression garments and teach self-care techniques.”
3. Research & Policy: “Conduct studies (e.g., LIMPRINT) and advocate for disability-inclusive health policies.”
4. Community Resilience: “Combat myths and isolation through dialogue sessions.”
Our Vision:
“A Uganda where no one is limited by lymphoedema or disability—where early intervention, equitable healthcare access, and social inclusion enable all individuals to thrive.”
Aligned with Strategic Goals (2025 Report):
– “Expand training programs to high-prevalence districts.”
– “Leverage technology for patient tracking and care continuity.”
– “Reintegrate critical drugs (e.g., Ivermectin) into national health programs.”
CORE VALUES:
1. Compassion: “Patient-centered care rooted in dignity.”
2. Collaboration: “Partner with local/international experts
3. Evidence-Based: “Data-driven interventions.”
4. Advocacy: “Amplify marginalized voices.”

International Lymphoedema Framework Uganda

1. Healthcare Worker Training
ILF Uganda partners with institutions like Makerere University, Institute of Applied Dermatology (India), and Nottingham Trent University to provide specialized training for healthcare workers in underserved districts. This initiative builds local capacity and improves lymphoedema care in Uganda.

2. Medical Supplies Distribution
Access to necessary supplies can be life-changing for those with lymphoedema. In collaboration with Cizeta Medical, we distribute compression garments and other essential items to communities, helping people manage their condition effectively.

3. Community Outreach and Awareness
With a focus on education and stigma reduction, our outreach campaigns reach thousands of individuals in high-risk areas, helping communities understand lymphoedema and encouraging early treatment.

Research and Policy Advocacy
Through rigorous research and policy advocacy, ILF Uganda addresses the healthcare needs of individuals with disabilities in Uganda. Our studies support a more inclusive healthcare framework that recognizes the challenges faced by these communities.
Real Stories of Transformation
How ILF Uganda Is Changing Lives in Uganda
Grace’s Journey: From Isolation to Hope
“Before, I hid in my hut—ashamed of my swollen legs. People called me cursed.”
Grace, a 52-year-old mother from Napak District, lived with severe lymphoedema for over a decade. Stigma forced her to abandon her small farm, and her family struggled to afford pain relief.
Transformation:
- Received compression therapy and hygiene training from an ILF Uganda outreach team.
- Joined a community dialogue group to challenge myths about her condition.
- Now leads a support group, teaching others self-care techniques.
“Today, I walk to the market without shame. My children see me strong again.”

James: A Fisherman’s Second Chancesolation to Hope
“I thought my fishing days were over—until ILF Uganda came to Buvuma.”
James, a fisherman from Buvuma Islands, developed hydrocele after years of working in mosquito-infested waters. The swelling made it impossible to sail, pushing his family into poverty.
Transformation:
- Underwent surgery funded by ILF Uganda’s advocacy for LF care.
- Trained in lymphoedema management to prevent recurrence.
- Now mentors other fishermen on early symptom recognition.
“The boat is my livelihood. ILF gave it back to me.”

Nurse Lydia: Bridging the Healthcare Gap
“We used to turn patients away—we didn’t know how to help them.”
Lydia, a nurse at a rural clinic in Napak, lacked training to treat lymphoedema. Patients like Grace were sent home with painkillers, worsening their conditions.
Transformation:
- Attended ILF Uganda’s “Training of Trainers” program led by Prof. Christine Moffatt.
- Now runs the district’s first lymphoedema clinic, serving 50+ patients monthly.
- Advocates for government inclusion of LF care in local health centers.
“Now, we offer hope—not just bandages.”

The Buvuma Community: Breaking the Stigma
“We used to whisper about ‘lobukejen’—now we talk openly.”
In Buvuma, myths labeled lymphoedema as witchcraft. Families hid affected relatives, delaying treatment.
Transformation:
- ILF Uganda’s awareness campaigns reached 1,000+ villagers through dramas and FGDs.
- 40% reduction in stigma reported after 6 months of community dialogues.
- Local leaders now prioritize mosquito net distribution to prevent LF.
